With McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin as his vice presidential nominee, the packages are complete, and the “McCain has to pick a pro-choicer to assure this or that group if he wants to win” is over.  Meanwhile, the Democrats have been touting their VP pick as just the guy to attract Catholics.  I don’t think the [...]

I was up way too late last night blogging, so this will be short (I pray) (I was going to say “hope”, but hope is not a course of action , so I switched it).
Like most people, I heard McCain’s VP pick and said, “Who?”
The more I hear, though, the more I like.
Apparently, Sarah [...]

I watched it on the DVR, so I’m a little late tonight.
“… with hard work and sacrifice…”  Obama keeps talking about the virtues of hard work, but then…
“… the failure to respond [to plunging home values, unreachable tuition, credit card debt, and foreclosures] is the direct result of broken policies in Washington and the direct [...]

Barack Obama will now be permanently in the history books as the first black to be chosen as a presidential candidate by a major party.  Congratulations.
Yes, it’s a milestone.
I’ll be excited when it isn’t.  I don’t think that trumpeting “the first black” this and “the first woman” that and the “first blond pygmy lesbian” whatever [...]

Hillary Clinton was the focus of the Democratic National Convention coverage today.
Fox News had a clip of Hillary Clinton telling her supporters to throw their support behind Barack Obama.  Unfortunately, the camera is cruel, and it caught her grimacing over the words.  Sort of like the face the news commentators made when trying to swallow [...]

Records have been broken, memories made, stories told.
The opening ceremonies were beautiful and overwhelming.  The closing ceremonies were an incredible sensory overload.
The games were fantastic.  It looked like no detail was overlooked.  Volunteers were everywhere.  The venues were polished and beautiful.  Almost every venue had some sort [...]

On the second-to-last day of coverage of the Olympics, I can finally say I liked one of NBC’s human interest spots.  After the silly kung fu spot, the offensive Chinese-food-is-weird spot, etc. I wasn’t expecting much.  (Actually, either I’ve been missing them somehow or NBC just hasn’t been airing any more of the Mary Carillo [...]

Since the mandatory waiting period is over, I just filed our re-adoption paperwork so my youngest can have an easily accessable U.S. birth certificate.  We skipped paying the lawyers $700, because the parts that go through the courts are just a few form letters (I also did all the paperwork for finalizing our older two children’s [...]

My Olympic Top Ten

The kids didn’t cooperate.  They were rather whiny and annoying tonight, so I don’t have any cute stories to tell.  So, contrary to the earlier post, this won’t be about the kids.
I’m going back to the Olympics.
Now, remember, I am NOT an athlete.  I pick sports that nobody else does so hardly anyone [...]
