I’m not sure I really want the answer to that.
We’re coming up to the end of the all-important first 100 days of Obama’s administration.
President Obama hs made it a priority to demolish various protections that prevented tax dollars from funding pro-abortion groups overseas. Let’s spread the death and mental and physical damages, because it isn’t fair that we only inflict this on ourselves; we need to eliminate the potential competition around the world, too! (A new report just came out stating that, after a more thorough study, China’s gender gap is now estimated to be 32 million more boys than girls under 20 years old. And it’s worse in the four and under age group, which means the problem is escalating, not tapering off, in spite of Beijing’s programs and initiatives to try to instill more value for daughters against the prevailing desire for sons. Thanks to President Obama, your taxdollars are now going to fund the UNFPA, which assists China with its family planning programs. Remember that when the 32 million man Chinese army is conquering SE Asia in another decade or so…)
Obama burned through trillions of our’s and our children’s dollars for… what? Propping up various companies that should have been allowed to fail because of their mistakes? Sort of like welfare… if there are no consequences for failure, then, hey, we can do anything because the government will catch us, right? But when we all jump in a net only designed to catch one person…
Obama shook hands and made friendly overtures to egregious human rights violators (Chavez, Castro, and China), insulted our allies (“I mean, like, it isn’t as if Britain is special to the U.S. or anything,” an aide told his British counterpart after the DVD incident), and apologized to just about everyone. Meanwhile, the violence in Iraq has spiked and the Taliban is expanding in Pakistan again, while our sort-of-ally waffles, not sure if the U.S. is going to be around longer than the Taliban, or if it would be better to strike a deal with them instead of the U.S. Obama totally failed to smooth over the nuclear problems with North Korea and Iran (what happened to “restoring our position” in the world? I thought everyone was just supposed to swoon at his feet and play nice?), instead leaving that to the UN, while warning Israel not to do anything drastic. (Rule 1 about Israel: they will do what they think necessary. They have learned the hard way that nice intentions just get people killed. And they don’t care too much what the UN thinks of them, since the UN would rather shake their fingers over refugee camps… which the surrounding Arab countries have maintained for decades to make Israel look bad, while Israel absorbed the Jewish refugees dumped on their borders.) Feel safer yet?
The Department of Homeland Security has declared a variety of conservative groups or movements to be suspect. Secretary Napolitano gave a not-quite-an-apology explanation to the VFW and the media (“I’m sorry if you were offended” is not an apology… and one or two military veterans doing something violent does not justify broadbrushing an entire category of people). If you think abortion is wrong, illegal immigration is a major problem, the Constitution actually means something (including that part about the right to bear arms), and the government has gotten entirely too big… well, you too can proudly consider yourself an extremist under the DHS warnings! (but they aren’t trying to be the thought police, DHS insists… and, um… the report was started on Bush’s watch! So it isn’t our fault… even if we issued it and had three months to get it right…)
Our local paper covered the entire top half of the front page with an article about how our area was a “prime terrorist recruiting” location, due to “diversity” because of the large number of military personnel, several “historically black” colleges, an evangelical Christian college, and some “anti-abortion” groups. (Ok, one of them is really far out there and more-or-less condones violence to stop abortion, but you had to dig pretty far into the article to find out who they were talking about. Mostly, the paper left the reader with the impression that the problem was all “anti-abortion” groups.) The universities were not amused. Due to the racial references, the ACLU is not amused, either.
And, just when people had started to discuss the potential firing of Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of the DHS, we get the swine flu scare. She gets to stand in front of the cameras and look professional and reassuring. Very good for the image after last week’s debacle.
Oh, yes, and the government gets yet another crisis.
Just what we needed. A health crisis to force through national health care. (Should I point out that Levin commented in Liberty and Tyranny on how *useful* a health crisis would be to force things through that the public normally wouldn’t even consider?) Let’s tack on a few more trillions of debt and unsupported obligations for universal health care to make ourselves feel more liberally superior. (Hey, it’s worked *so* well for Great Britain and other countries that have tried it.)
Call me crazy, but it’s almost like President Obama wants a never-ending series of crises. Yes, they were/are problems. Yes, I’d rather we consider how to halt a potential flu epidemic before it gets out of hand (how about starting with not sending high schoolers to Mexico for Spring Break? Just a thought.), but do we need another round of panic-mongering? Especially since it seems to be easily treatable? (BTW, have you lost money in the stock market? I recommend investing everything you’ve got in whatever company it is that makes Tamiflu, because they look posed to have a banner year!)
We’ve had 100 days of crisis: economy, banks, torture, environment, flu, “right-wing extremists’.
Is this the change we were promised? A new manufactured “CRISIS!” every week to keep our thirty-second attention spans distracted before we actually start thinking about what’s happening?
Anybody feel safer?
From the other side of the pond, a view from a Brit on where we’re headed on “Watts up with that?” a blog on global warming, sunspots, etc. Very educational blog.
It must be patently obvious to anyone who has any knowledge whatsoever of his intricate ties to businesses involved in the ‘cap-and-trade’ revenue raising scam that he, Gore, is going to double or treble his already obscene fortune.
Just look at what has happened in the last week here in the UK.
Our country is on the verge of bankruptcy, the number of jobless people rises ominously quickly, deflation has begun. Our government’s solution? To spend half a million pounds on freaking windmills!
Our energy prices are set to go through the roof, with the poorest sectors of our population being the hardest hit.
People of the USA, look across the pond at what awaits you. Socialist inspired central control does NOT work, but that is what is being imposed on us all. And it is all in the baseless assertion that the destructive policies being enacted are to save the planet from mankind.
Here in the UK a citizen’s voice is no longer heard, although his every e-mail, web-site visited and mobile phone call is now to be recorded.
You in the USA are our only hope for some sort of sane reaction to halting this mad march to totalitarian control of everything that everyone does.
Please help!!
