Dr. George Tiller, the infamous late-term abortionist also referred to as “Tiller the Killer” is dead.
He was shot while entering his church for services today. Police have not yet released the identity of Tiller’s murderer, so we can only guess at his motive. Tiller recently escaped his recent trial with an acquittal, but the state medical board was investigating him, with an eye to revoke his license.
Never to be stoped by a lack of evidence (or the presence of evidence they don’t like), pro-abortion groups are already foaming at the mouth for the chance to attack pro-life groups. Lifenews reported that NOW has called for the Obama administration to go after all pro-life groups, and others are taking up the call.
Kansas City Star columnist Mike Hendricks blamed pro-life advocates for Tiller’s death, saying there had been a “vitriolic campaign that has been waged against Tiller for more than two decades by anti-abortion groups.”
As “accomplices,” Hendricks named “every one who has ever called Tiller’s late term abortion clinic a murder mill.”
(Several pro-life groups have condemned the killing. No mainstream pro-life group advocates vigilante justice.)
Reminiscent of the student in CCD who first complained that we shouldn’t say “pro-abortion” and then reported us to the CCD director for describing partial-birth abortion in “gruesome and unnecessary terms.” I somewhat tersely explained to the Director of Religious Education that we had, in the course of discussing politics and Christian considerations in voting, described partial-birth abortion in the plainest terms possible. “Plain” being a very relative description for an explanation of what is a gruesome procedure.
Let’s discuss what, exactly, Dr. George Tiller specialized in.
Priests for Life has the textbook explanation of a partial-birth abortion here. The drawings are nauseating. To sum up, the abortionist pulls the baby out of the birth canal by the feet. Once the baby has been delivered up to its neck, the abortionist then stabs scissors into the back of the baby’s skull, opens them to widen the hole, and uses a vacuum to suck out the baby’s brains. The baby’s skull collapses, and the dead baby’s head finishes its transit out of the birth canal. (The main difference the Partial Birth Abortion Ban seems to have had is that abortionists either claim it’s for the mother’s mental or physical health, or they give the baby a lethal injection before doing the abortion, so, technically, he/she is already dead, and therefore the PBA Ban is not violated.)
So, the baby is not fully inside the mother’s body when it is killed. It is within inches of being fully born. Of course, the logical conclusion is, “If it’s only a few inches, so what if the baby is all the way out?” Numerous reports have been made of babies born alive and left to die, dumped into chemicals, or knocked against tables.
Partial birth abortions are done on babies who are in the last few months of gestation. This is well within the time when, for legitimate medical reasons, the baby could be born early and have a very good chance of not only surviving but being healthy with the help of neo-natal technology. Even PBA practitioners have admitted in testimony that at least 80% of these abortions are “purely elective”, not medically necessary at all, and that’s from the people who do them.
Dr. Tiller’s wife, children, and grandchildren issued a statement, remembering him as someone who “dedicated his life” to “providing women with high-quality” abortions. Does that include the illegal late-term abortions with the rubber stamp sign-off that was supposed to be an independent medical verification of the “need” for a late-term abortion? Or the women who testified that they had absolutely no medical need at all, just parents forcing them into the abortion?
Do those “high-quality” abortions include the ones performed on the at least two women who died from those abortions? Or the ones rushed off in ambulances? (no sirens, to avoid embarassment to the clinic… and delaying the ambulance’s trip to a legitimate medical facility)
I echo the sentiments of other pro-lifers: I regret that Dr. Tiller was murdered.
He deserved to spend his life in prison.
He deserved a chance to repent of his gruesome career.
I hope he repented before God before he died.
But Dr. George Tiller does not deserve any rehabilitation of his reputation.
Anyone who will stab babies in the back of the head for a living is not a “wonderful” man, Christian, doctor, or father, no matter what his friends, family, or Planned Parenthood say.
