I was (finally) going to get back to politics tonight, but I happened to see an article as I logged into my e-mail about flooding in China. (and if you saw the briefly posted other post on Arizona’s immigration law, I took it down to leave this at the top for a while; the AZ post will be back tomorrow.)
Empress comes from an area on the Yangtze, just downriver from Wuhan, Hubei province. Wuhan and the surrounding areas have suffered from massive flooding before. The Three Gorges Dam was build partly to provide hydroelectric power, but mostly to control the flooding on the Yangtze, including Wuhan immediately downstream. (Wuhan is the largest city in central China.)
Times like these, I wonder about Empress’ birthparents and her foster parents.
There are more than 700 dead and more than 400 missing already, the water level in the Three Gorges Dam is at its highest ever, and the rain is expected to continue for some time. The landslide that made the news today was in Sichuan, a very poor province which was struck by a major earthquake in 2008.
Please pray for the people of China.
