No, not the big furry one with the allergies and the bad habit of table surfing.
On April 16, Pope Benedict XVI (formerly Cardinal Josef Ratzinger) turned 85. (April 19 was also the seventh anniversary of his election as pope.) While wishing him a very happy birthday, and praying that he sees many more, he has looked a bit worn out lately. EWTN’s news program noted tonight that Benedict XVI has just recently become the oldest living pope in a century (his predecessor, Blessed John Paul II, died less than a month short of his 85th birthday).
If it weren’t so late (and my milk just got delivered, so I need to get it off the front porch), I’d kick back with some more hot chocolate and several of B16’s papal encyclicals I’ve fallen behind on. (1. Twenty years ago, nothing in that last sentence (except the hot chocolate) would have held ANY interest for me. 2. I can’t believe how little I read, now that I have four kids. *sigh*)
Please Lord, continue to guard and guide the heart, mind, and pen of our dear Pope Benedict XVI, and may we have the blessing of his continued teaching for years to come. Amen.
